Karen Fox is a project manager and geographic information systems (GIS) analyst with the Environmental Information Services Group at the Scituate, MA office of Clancy Environmental Consultants, Inc. She has over 15 years of experience conducting environmental research and managing government contracts and projects at the local, state and federal levels. Previous positions as a GIS analyst, cartographer, editor, and transportation and land use planner, have provided Ms. Fox with a strong background in geospatial data management, statistical analysis, technical writing, and public policy development, analysis, and support.
Ms. Fox is currently the CEC work assignment manager for a 3-year contract with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (USEPA) Health and Ecological Criteria Division that provides technical and regulatory support for the development of criteria for water media, with an emphasis on microbiology. She has also supported the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) National Marine Sanctuary Program to develop a standardized design for monitoring assessments, a monitoring prioritization strategy, and continues to provide technical support for the development of “Condition Reports” (see NOAA website for Condition Reports) for each of the nation's 14 sanctuaries. Ms. Fox also serves as GIS/data analyst for a wide variety of environmental litigation projects to support technical positions.
Ms. Fox has supported research and GIS data management projects for several other organizations including, the Department of Housing and Urban Development, the U.S. Coast Guard, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), and several state and local agencies. She has conducted research on watershed protection and management, water quality, trends in marine life populations, and environmental regulations and guidelines. Ms. Fox is proficient in the development of Federal Geographic Data Committee and ISO compliant geospatial metadata, and has managed the development of a federal agency-wide geospatial data library. She has also managed numerous GIS analysis projects including the development of several town-level geospatial databases and regional land use analyses. Specifically, these projects have been conducted employing the use of Microsoft Excel and Access, ESRI ArcGIS, MapInfo, and USGS Metadata Tools.
