Karen Fox is an environmental scientist with the Environmental Information Services Group at the Scituate, MA office of Clancy Environmental Consultants, Inc. She has over 15 years of experience conducting environmental research and managing urban and regional planning projects. She worked previously for the State of Massachusetts as a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) analyst, cartographer, and transportation and land use planner, providing her with a strong background in geospatial data management, statistical analysis, and public policy. Ms. Fox has worked in the private sector as project manager on several federal contracts requiring technical expertise in both environmental research and geospatial data management.
Ms. Fox's experience at CEC has focused primarily on marine studies and environmental policy. She has developed a standardized design for national marine sanctuary monitoring assessments that serves as a foundation for a monitoring prioritization strategy supporting development of a federal-level data and information management plan. She has conducted research on watershed protection and management, water quality, trends in marine life populations, and environmental regulations and guidelines.
Ms. Fox has supported research and GIS data management projects for numerous organizations including the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA), the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), the U.S. Coast Guard, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), and several state and local agencies. She is an expert in the development of Federal Geographic Data Committee and ISO compliant geospatial metadata, and has managed the development of a federal agency-wide geospatial data library. Ms. Fox has also managed numerous GIS analysis projects including the development of several town-level parcel databases and regional land use analyses. Projects have been conducted employing the use of Microsoft Excel and Access, ESRI ArcGIS, MapInfo, and USGS Metadata Tools.
