Using existing data or researcher knowledge of the distribution of data, CEC personnel can identify and develop relationships between variability and the differences that can be detected for various sample sizes. Where the data required are inadequate, CEC can design plans for collecting additional data or apply powerful modeling and resampling approaches to develop a sampling plan that is likely to resolve environmental issues and monitoring needs.
