Thomas Hargy is a senior scientist at Clancy Environmental Consultants, Inc. His experience of over 28 years has covered a wide range of environmental fields. A common thread throughout his career is an emphasis on groundbreaking research studies. Whether evaluating potential impacts of copper/nickel mining on nearby wilderness areas, identifying contaminants in ultrapure water systems, developing water monitoring techniques, or improving drinking water disinfection, Mr. Hargy has been at the respective field's cutting edge. His efforts toward improved quantification of protozoan pathogens in water and his laboratory, pilot, and full-scale UV light studies at CEC have led to new U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) rules, methods, and guidance for the monitoring and treatment of drinking water.

Mr. Hargy has designed and conducted performance evaluations on pilot and full-scale wastewater, drinking water and ultrapure water filtration, and disinfection treatment systems. He has managed the microbial challenge process of his team's bioassay validation of UV systems treating 40 million gallons per day.

Mr. Hargy has undertaken numerous investigations of innovative technologies under grants from the USEPA and the American Water Works Association Research Foundation (AwwaRF). As an active participant in advances in the drinking water industry, he is well suited to assisting regulatory agencies understand, evaluate, and regulate these technologies, and to work with utilities and their engineering consulting staff toward their successful implementation. He has conducted numerous workshops for industry and regulatory audiences, and co-authored recent guidelines for the application of UV to drinking water and wastewater that were published by the National Water Research Institute and AwwaRF for the State of California and others. In direct consultation with utilities and their consultants, Mr. Hargy has provided his expertise in support of pre-design water treatment planning, reviewed final plans for compliance with applicable regulations, evaluated vendor bid packages, and provided third-party oversight of selected system performance validations.

Mr. Hargy's capabilities build upon his extensive training and diverse experiences in environmental and process analysis. He has mastered a wide range of analytical methods and field and laboratory instrumentation that provides effective versatility to projects ranging from baseline evaluations to new process research and development.
