U.S. Agency for International Development. Working with CDM International in Amman, Jordan. CEC assisted in developing an integrated risk management program for the Jordanian Water Authority and Ministries of Health/Environmental Health Directorate using principles of improved water resource management and source protection.
Casper, WY Public Utilities. CEC provided analytical and consulting services to assist the utility in preparing reports for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency in determining their status for the ground water under the direct influence of surface water determinations. (J. AWWA, November 1997).
Central Wyoming Regional Water System, Casper, WY. Working with CH2M Hill (Denver) and Earthworks (Cincinnati, OH), CEC completed a 2.5-year riverbank filtration study using microbiological parameters to examine removal through the aquifer. In March 2005 Region 8 USEPA granted conditional 2.0-log removal credit for the alternative filtration technology operated by the CWRWS for compliance with the IESWTR. This was the first time the USEPA acknowledged the use of riverbank filtration to comply with this regulation. (J. AWWA, December 2005).
Kennewick, WA. Working with Western Groundwater Services (Bozeman, MT) and Earthworks (Cincinnati, OH), CEC conducted a year-long assessment of the efficacy of riverbank filtration for removal of pathogens and microbiological surrogates The State of Washington granted Kennewick 2.0-log removal credit for Giardia and Cryptosporidium.
Portland, OR. CEC teamed with McGuire Environmental Consultants, Inc. (Santa Monica, CA) to conduct an independent review of the technical feasibility, cost effectiveness and neighborhood impacts of five alternative approaches to comply with the pending requirements of the open reservoir provisions of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Long Term 2 Enhanced Surface Water Treatment Rule, and to address water system security and aging infrastructure issues for the City's open finished drinking water reservoirs in Mt. Tabor Park.
Metropolitan Water District of Southern California (MWDSC). CEC participated in a CALFED expert panel that reviewed water quality reports and pathogen dispersion and risk models for Lake Perris, CA, which serves as a drinking water source for MWDSC. The panel made recommendations on balancing recreational use of the lake with source water protection needs to minimize risk to downstream water consumers and swimmers.
West Basin Municipal Water District, Carson, CA. CEC participated in an expert review of the seawater barrier water conservation project, designed to prevent seawater intrusion into groundwater using a series of injection wells positioned like a dam between the ocean and the groundwater aquifer.
